Nov 25 – Hike: San Dieguito River Park-Santa Fe Valley, Rancho Santa Fe
After Thanksgiving Day Hike
San Elijo Lagoon and Annies Slot Canyon, In Solana Beach
9:30 AM, Friday, November 25, 2022
Meet at north end of Solana Hills Drive
GPS: 33.00023, -117.25831
Skip the Black Friday shopping rush and come along for a hike to Annies Slot Canyon and along or around the San Elijo Lagoon. After 4 years of construction, the trail system is finished for use. We start at a new trailhead to get to Annies Canyon and go through that, then walk the short Gemma trails nearby the lagoon. That may be enough for some for a 2-mile round trip with some short hills in about 1.5 Hours.
For others that wish a longer hike, we can continue the new trails and bridges to walk around part of or the whole lagoon, including a stop in the new nature center on the north side. This would be a 4.5 mile round trip in 2.5-3 Hours. Dogs on leash are ok. No portapotties available.
Directions: Find your way to Hwy 5 towards Solana Beach. Exit off Hwy 5 at Lomas Santa Fe Dr. Go west on Lomas Santa Fe 1 block from Hwy 5 and turn right, north, onto Solana Hills Dr. (First Citizens Bank is at that corner). Follow to the end and park along the street.
Note: Shortest way from Escondido area only, go W. Valley Pkwy to Del Dios Rd into Rancho Santa Fe. Through town then take Linea Del Cielo all the way to Hwy 5 becoming Lomas Santa Fe Dr.
What to bring: Water bottle for longer hikers, binoculars, and shoes for the dusty trail. Expectations of fun!
