Feb 18 – Hike Double Peak, San Marcos

9:30 AM, SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 2023

MEET AT LAKEVIEW PARK (DISCOVERY LAKE)

650 FOXHALL DR., SAN MARCOS

GPS: 33.12507, -117.17862

Come along for a good workout hike at Double Peak. The view from the top can be amazing on a clear day. It’s a moderate-hard effort hike being steep in many parts. But, at just 2 miles long going up, it is doable even if you’re not a great hiker. The trail path is pavement and crushed rock. Plan on 3 hours to complete including hangout and snack time at the top. Bring dogs on leash is ok. Bathrooms available.

Meet at the Lakeview Park (Discovery Lake) by the restrooms in the parking lot. Parking also along the street.

Dress for the weather, cool or warm, and usually a wind at the top.

Bring a drink bottle and a pocket snack, and binoculars maybe.

From Vista:  Going Hwy 78 eastwards, exit San Marcos Blvd, go right (west) 2 blocks and take S. Bent Ave at stop light, right. Follow Bent which merges into Discovery St. go left. 1 block along go right onto Craven Rd, then right at Foxhall Dr to Lakeview Park, park along street somewhere.

From Escondido:  Going Hwy 78 westward, exit for S. Twin Oaks Valley Rd. Follow south a few stoplights to right turn on Craven Rd (west), then to a stoplight left onto Foxhall Dr. up to the Lakeview Park and find a place to park, probably on Foxhall Dr.

In case of rain that morning we’ll cancel.
