Join us for a nice walk up to the top of Black Mt. This popular mount offers all around great views of Central San Diego Co. area making for a great day hike experience for exercise and social. An easy to  moderate effort, 4.6 mile total trip up and down in 2.5 hours with time at the top. A gravel trail up and back. The very beginning is a 200 meter steep asphalt road hill to walk up, but after that all is easy walking on the gravel roadway.  Leashed dogs (with water) are ok on the trail. Sorry, no bathrooms.

Meet: At the trail head along 9380 Maler road by 9:30 am. Our route will start there and follow the trail up to the top and back.

What to bring:  Suitable hiking footwear for rocks on trail, good shoes are ok, appropriate hiking clothing for the weather and sun hat, binoculars, 1L water/drink, maybe a pocket snack.

Simplest Directions

From Hwy 78 to I-15 Southbound to Hwy 56 west. Exit onto Black Mountain Rd heading north, right. Follow Black Mtn Rd 1.9 miles to Maler Rd intersection. Go east, right, 0.2 mi uphill to the trail entrance.

From I-5, take Hwy 56 East to Black Mountain Rd exit. Go north, left, on Black Mnt Rd 1,9 miles up to Maler Rd intersection. Go east, right, 0.2 mi uphill to the trail entrance.
