The Music Man is a classic Broadway musical by Meredith Willson about Harold Hill, a charismatic traveling con man. He poses as a boys’ band leader to swindle a small Iowa town, but his scheme derails when he falls for the town librarian, Marian Paroo. Set in the summer of 1912, the story follows Professor Harold Hill as he arrives in River City, Iowa. He convinces the naïve townspeople to buy instruments and uniforms for a boys’ “Think System” band, intending to pocket the money and skip town. His plans are complicated by two factors: the local librarian, Marian, who sees through his charade, and Marian’s younger brother, Winthrop, whose lisp and social awkwardness are cured when Harold takes a personal interest in him.
